Nothing beats the optical clarity of a prime, especially if you want to do wide angle work. The 28-80 will do you just fine for that zoom range, but if you plan to go shorter than 28, I'd stick to prime lenses. Zooms work fine at longer focal lengths and with flat ports, but the average zoom lens just can't focus close enough to work with a dome port. Yes, I know, you can use diopters, but I have never been satisfied with the quality of focus with that setup.

The Ike housing works *great* with the 24mm lens. I have also used a 20mm lens in the Ike housing, but I was not entirely thrilled with the corner sharpness...but the 24 is awesome in that housing.
