I'm batting 1000 with perfect strobes from Ike. The only problem I have ever had was a flood.

That said, the DS-125 is a new model from them. It's not surprising that they might have a design or assembly glitch here & there.

About the smart charger: they're expensive. I suspect that Ike decided they'd rather make it an option instead of pumping up the price of the base unit.
