They *do* have a magnifying effect, of course, but the optics don't change otherwise. This is not true of curved ports, but that's irrelevant since the Auto 35 has a flat port. Short answer: yes, you can use the Auto 35 on land. IMO the Auto 35 is the premier entry-level camera on the market right now... D
