Just an update....

I have been trying to find a digtal camera to fit the Auto 35 housing, and I have managed to do so, with a few caveats.

:O)

I have modified (read gound the top and bottom off of..) a JamCam 3.0 from KB Interactive. It's a toy, basically, but thats not all bad.

First the good :
1. I got it off of Ebay for 32.50. 2. It's cheap enough that an on-board or underwater accident won't break my heart. 3. I didn't hesitate to 'alter' the housing at this price. 4. It's adjustable (pre-dive) to make the flash go off every time, like the SuperView.

Now the bad (depending on your perspective) :
1. It only goes up to 640x480 resolution, o.k. for 5x7 reprints and smaller, but it's very noticeable at 8x10. 2. It turns itself off after 5 minutes of inactivity, so you HAVE to take a picture occasionally or about pic's of the rest of the dive. 3. It eats batteries (9v).

..and the ugly :
1. If you mess up while grinding, it may be hard, or impossible to fix depending on the severity of the goof. 2. The viewfinder is tiny. I have not used it with a mask yet, but I will report after my Acapulco vacation in June. 3. It can be a challenge to engineer an extension to the shutter arm which will be reliable and consistent.

I have been goofing with this for a few days, and if anyone is interested, I might do a 'whitepaper' of sorts to help someone duplicate my efforts. It's definitely an entry-level digital camera solution (which is exactly what I wanted anyway, no big expenditures), but a photography pro would not be satisfied at all.

Thanks for listening !
