  Austin Symphony Children's Day Art Park
Children can experience the magic of the arts at Children's Day Art Park. This exciting summer program features local musicians, dancers, storytellers, magicians, mimes and crafts people. Youngsters can visit the Instrumental Petting Zoo (where they can see, touch and try to play the instruments), talk to symphony musicians and hear them play their instruments, see a Ballet Folklorico, hear a country western band, follow a real pied piper along the Lemonade Trail to the Magic Oak Tree and try their hands at different art projects under the Art Tent. Admission is 50 cents per child and parents are free. Concerts are Wednesday mornings in June and July beginning at 9:30. This place fills up quickly, so arrive very early!

Regal Free Family Film Festival
Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer.

Congress Street Bats
March to early November

One of the most amazing sights in Austin takes place every evening from March to early November, when 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from their roosts under the Congress Avenue Bridge. Late July through mid-August is the best time to see impressive flights, as new born pups first begin to forage with their mothers.  Take one of the several evening boat cruises for the best vantage point, or just stroll on down to the Congress Street Bridge and enjoy the show

The Austin Public Library sponsors many interesting programs including storytellers, singing zoologists, puppets and other themed activities.

Summer Playground Program
2008 - TBD

The program offers a wide variety of recreation activities to children 6-12 years old and 12-15 years old, and it's all free! With neighborhood sites throughout the city, Playground Leaders create safe, supervised and fun-filled environments with activities including sports, games, arts and crafts, nature activities and cook-outs.

Movies at Deep Eddy
June - early August - Saturday night

Watch a movie while you float in the pool. Family-oriented films from classic to recent releases such as Old Yeller and Harry Potter are projected onto a large screen at poolside. Movies start at dusk. Regular Deep Eddy admission applies.

Blackberry Picking at Sweet Berry Farms
May and June

Enjoy family fun by picking your own fresh blackberries at this farm just outside Marble Falls.  There will be a spring hay-field maze in May and June while the blackberries are at their peak. The location also has goats and horses for petting. Sweet Berry Farm now has two locations. The original farm is located in Marble Falls, which is nestled in the Texas Hill Country north-west of Austin. Sweet Berry Farms now has a location in Lexington, Texas, a tucked-away hamlet east of Austin.

Texas Greek Festival
Early in June

The Austin Museum of Art - Laguna Gloria hosts the annual celebration of Greek culture, including authentic food and pastries, live bouzouki bands and traditional Greek dancing, with proceeds benefiting local charities.

Wild Basin Moonlighting Tour
May 18th, 2008, July 18th, August 15th

Enjoy a spectacular view of the full moon rise from the overlook of Wild Basin. Learn about the different moon phases, science, legends and lore with the knowledgeable volunteers of the Austin Astronomical Society. You may want to bring a small flashlight, water, binoculars and a cushion. $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and ages 5-12. Reservations required. Astronomy tours are held on a weather-permitting basis.

Austin Under the Stars at St Stephen's Episcopal School
June 28, 2008

The public is invited to join local astronomers who will be viewing our closest stellar neighbor, the Sun, in daytime skies, using special protective filters on several telescopes. After the Sun slips under the horizon, we'll turn our attention to the celestial wonders in the night skies.  Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and water and/or refreshments as well as telescopes and/or binoculars, if desired. Pets and smoking are not permitted on the observing field; nor is aerosol insect repellant and flash photography.

Fourth of July Fireworks & Symphony
July 4th

Zilker Hillside Theater
June 28th - August 9th

This years production is Disney's Beauty and the Beast.  Come on out, bring a little something to eat, throw a blanket down and relax with family and friends. Enjoy the variety of entertainment in the scenic beauty and natural setting that is one of the jewels of the Austin Parks and Recreation Department. Admission is free. Parking is $3

Austin Summer Musical for Children - Sour Grapes
August 2 - 3; August 9-10

The show is a fully costumed and choreographed musical under the artistic direction of Ron Dodson. It is written, planned and performed by a board of community volunteers who share their free time to ensure that the children of Austin and Central Texas will be treated to a quality show. Ten free public performances, produced for children ages 3-10, will allow 1500 children in Central Texas to have the chance to experience live musical theatre.

On the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge; Austin's largest attended Arts & Crafts show, will feature Arts, Crafts, Music, Food, Bat Watching, Children's Activities, and Educational Displays. Estimated attendance is around 40,000!
