Matchbox Children's Theater - The Elves and the Shoemaker - February 6 - 8, 2009

This slightly fractured fairy tale features the character of Jacob Grimm. After a bit of protesting, he becomes captivated by this quirky version of his famous tale. Times are hard for Hans the Shoemaker and his family with just enough leather to make one more pair of shoes. In the nick of time, seven zany elves get lost and wander into his shop. Trina, the delightfully confused family dog, woofs her commentary on the madcap mayhem caused by the elves. Find out how their good work leads to Hans getting fame as a wonderful shoemaker plus a special order for 100 pairs of shoes!

Scottish Rite Children's Theater - Little Red Riding Hood - Feb 7th - Feb 21st

An original adaptation for Scottish Rite Children's Theatre by Austin's own D.H. Thompson, this delightful version adds a few twists to the classic tale. Little Red Riding Hood meets Chuck, an environmentally conscious woodsman, friend of the flowers, and eliminator of trash in the forest. He warns her of the Big Bad Wolf (who fancies himself an accomplished magician). On the way to her sick Grandmother's house with a basket of goodies, Red encounters the Wolf. Full of sneaky schemes, he will stop at nothing to score a tasty meal! Best suited for ages 3-10, the interactive play encourages children in the audience to become part of the action.

Zilker Kite Festival - March 1st, 2009
An afternoon of fun and kite flying.   Professional kite flyers from all over gather at this Austin event to show off their kite building and flying skills. Thousands gather every year to enjoy this Austin rite of springtime.  Only homemade kites can compete in the longest, continuously running kite contest in America.  There is no admission and everyone is welcome, even the family pet. The view is spectacular with literally hundreds of kites in the sky. Proceeds from concessions, t-shirt and booth sales goes to agencies dedicated to the prevention of child abuse.
