Thanks for your extensive tale of your experience.

Like I said in the first mail I posted, I was only thinking of using an extension tube on a 22-50mm lens. The reason for all this is simple: I do not have a macro lens, and thought about cheap (20US) ways to have more macro effect with the same lens and dome port.

With an extension tube I do not have loss of light. And when on a relative wide angle (22-55mm) lens I think I still have relative good DOF. I calculated that in doing this I would get a possible half size image on the film.

When the AF doesn't work, I am probably best of with setting the lens to MF and setting the focus to infinity. Then move the camera back and forth and see if I can set the image sharp.

All of this is worth the try, for only 20 US. After I've tried, I will share you my experiences.
