My post was more directed toward DrCraig about teleconverters.

I agree with Dave, extension tubes on a housed system will be pretty awkward. You will be forced to stop down anyway just to get your DOF at a reasonable level, plus you will lose a lot of light just by using an extension of any sort, whether teleconverter or tube. You will be forced to manually focus and the your DOF points will be difficult to guage without an aid such as a framer.

Tubes are cheap. So are single element diopters. But you lose something with either one. The diopter is still your best bet with your system. No matter which cheap alternative you use, you will waste a lot of film and dive time trying to get a good shot. How much is that worth?

I think it's time to bite the bullet and get a macro lens. I recently sold a 60mm for $240.
