Kenko makes extension tubes that will retain the auto focus of your lens although some combinations may not work. Peter the main problem I see with what you are wanting to do is the close focus necessary with the combination you are discussing. As the doctor alluded to in an earlier post your working distance is going to be small. I've tried some of this extreme uw macro a few years back before the 1:1 lenses became available. With lenses in the 50-60mm length you are almost (if not) having to press the port against your subject to have it in focus + you have to remember you have to get your flash in there to light the subject. I would take my equipment to the camera dealers and test the extension tube setup to see what your true working distance is before making the purchase. Good luck in your efforts and don't get discouraged or let people talk you out of experimenting (within reason of course). Also make sure you have a large trash can as you will fail much more than you succeed. If I got 2 keepers out of 36 I was happy.....fighting DOF, surge, and moving subjects was a nightmare but you do get some shots that not everyone has seen before.
