The Ikelite housing that I have has a simple flat, white deflector that stands about 3/8" from the housing front and blocks the flash. What I did wrong was move the sensor to the back side of the arm (closer to me) and aim it forward at the white of the deflector. This seemed like a good idea to get the best flash 'signal'. However, with the sensor aimed at this forward angle, it would sometimes pick up the light from the DS125 that it's controlling and so it just stayed on until it ran out of power. Let me tell you, that's a LOT of light for a digital camera. Some of my photos were coming out fully white with no discernable detail. I was getting pretty depressed.

As for batteries, they are suggesting the 1800mAH batteries from Thompson Distributing. I normally get allot of life out of some Monster brand 1800s that I picked up at Ultimate Electronics. As I mentioned, I was shooting way more photos per dive than I normally would while trying to solve my lighting problem. The LCD monitor is the big battery eater in most digicams. If it were left off, these batteries would last for hundreds of shots...but that eliminates the main advantage of digital.
