Your report raises some interesting issues, although it also overlooks at least one relevant point. To wit, many of the problems you describe are typical of the 'consumer' grade digicams. The higher-end units, which more closely resemble a traditional SLR except for the presence of a CCD sensor, mitigate most of these problems. Shutter lag (something that would drive me berserk, BTW) is reduced, AF is 'traditionally' responsive, and the usual array of dials and controls are present.

Of course, there's a price for all this, but that's not surprising. Regardless, I am holding out for a digicam that doesn't have the drawbacks you report. The Nikon D100 sounds like a pretty good bet, although there are already rumors surfacing about a Canon model with a 35mm sensor, as well as a Nikon answer to this rumored Canon machine. My plan right now is to wait until these rumors turn into a purchaseable product...

I loved your line about the purse camera. :)

Thanks for the eval report!

As much as I'm impressed with my setup, I have some common complaints and some comments + (0)
