The slow autofocus and shutter lag is a PITA for sure. My camera has 'full time autofocus' which helps by having the focus already established but there's still quite a lag. If I get a photo of anything that is moving, I'm convinced it'll be by luck alone.

I didn't think the SS200 could be used with these cameras. Is that unique to the Nikon digicams?

Navigating the menus can be pretty distracting but after a period of learning by trial-and-error I found that I didn't mess with all that many settings. In other words, I'd figure out what worked for a certain type of shot and stick with it until I decided to take a different type of shot. Not unlike a tradional system.

As for spending the whole dive futzing with the camera, yes it can happen for sure, especially in cases like my last trip where my strobe was acting up. I would take as many as 10-15 shots of a single subject trying to figure it out. Turns out, no setting on the camera or strobe was going to fix it. My system does let me see the last photo with a single button so at least that part is pretty quick.

Good luck and hope she's happy with it.
