If you are interested in a great thumbnail/viewer, with some minor editing capabilities. I recommend ACDSee (www.acdsee.com).

They also have some very useful plug in tools that you can use

The same folks have a tool called PhotoAngelo which can generate executable slide shows(*.exe), and screen savers (*.scr) that you can send to other people.

I have been a registered user since the early days, and am sold on their products (price is good too).

They offer demonstration versions with an option for a "supported" license. Which means that they will show advertisements in their windows, in exchange for you getting to use the software for free.
