It sounds like some funky interaction between the strobe and the camera. I shoot a Nikon N90s in an Ike housing, and I have used it with SS-50, SS-100, and SS-200 strobes....and I've never had any problems like you describe. I frequently turn off my SS-200 underwater if I'm shooting from farther than ~10ft / 3m.

There are two people I'd write to ask about this problem. One is ikelite@ikelite.com, and the other Larry Lozuk at larry@lozuk.com. Larry shoots a Canon in an Ike housing, so he would be able to tell you if he has encountered this problem.

FWIW, 10-15m is *definitely* outside of the strobe range. 2m is about the most you expect to get from a strobe underwater.

So are you going to share those dolphin pictures?

Where were you diving during all of this?
