Why does this lens need a custom made zoom sleeve? Is the USM lens thicker than the regular 17-35 lens? I have noticed that Ikelite's original clamp for the zoom mechanism is actually two pieces of curved plastic attached with two springs. Then you have to fit in the inner side some tpye of rubber (or whatever it is) in order to fill the gaps until the whole thing fits in your lens. It seems to be a very simple concept and I am sure it may be possible to temporarily improvise something similar that will fit any lens.

I have used a 50/1.8 with a Dome port. I needed the +4 diopters anyway because of minimal focusing distance. I didn't have any problems, so you can probably use your 50/1.4 lens with a dome port too.

And about the books...Well, I think that Dave is very humble. In the past I asked him which books he can recommend and he suggested several books. However, he told me nothing of HIS very own website...
So, after looking through several books I think that Dave's site is the most comprehensive and more valuable from any book or website that I've seen so far..
