I tried it again last night and found several things:

-In "P" mode (Program AE), the camera will switch to shutter speeds of 1/60 - 1/125 sec when the flash turns on and is ready to fire.

-In shutter priority, aperture priority, and manual the camera does not change shutter speeds when the flash is on and ready. It will still try to make a long "regular" exposure. The liitle flash signal does go on though.

I looked in the manual and this seems to go with what it says in the flash section. Then again, as has been mentioned before, the Canon's flash documentation is a little spotty.

I have also discovered that it seems like TTL doesn't work very well when the exposure times are very long.

...or is all of this related to my strobe problems from before? Maybe my strobe is still sick and I need to send it back to Dr. Ike.
